They turned out to be pages that I felt Google shouldn't have been crawling, so it was possible to use robots.txt. As long as Google is generous enough to keep pointing out problem pages then it's becomes easy to do something about the problem. As a directory owner using both phpLD and eSyndicat - hosted on same server I know that loading time does contribute to the number of hits on the directories. Good post keep it up!
