Show phpLD web directory in Wordpress!

Around february this year I released a small code of integrating Wordpress into phpLD, which is already there on my directory homepage, works great, and so far I have had a fare feedback on the Mod. Few days ago i saw a thread on DP about showing it the other way around! Showing phpLD on Wordpress homepage.

After an hour of itchy head, i cooked up a mod which does precisely that, and a couple of cool features thrown in. This is a WP plugin, so upgrading wordpress should not worry you!

Features:

1. It is a Wordpress plugin, tested on 2.8.4, so no worries as far as upgrading your wordpress is concerned, …. and you can deactivate the plugin whenever!

2. It has support of phpLD 2.3 and phpLd4.0,  … if you have other versions, please contact me and ill cook up things for you. [no extra charge]

with no messy editing, incorporating this plugin is a breaze, and works good, look above on the home page of this blog.

phpLD – Link renew mod 1.2.0

a New version of the link Renew mod is being released. with loads of new features and bug fixes.

Features added.

1. There are various times where the Expired date is not set, for example last year the user chose free listing, but this year we chose to close down the free links option. So the links that were free do NOT have a expiry date set, … or a user submitted a Normal link, but did not pay, we liked the site anyhow, but forgot the set the expiry date! (more…)

phpLD – Link Renew mod!

Update: new features have been added and some bugs fixed, please upgrade at the earliest – update

Last Month i realized that many of the links had expired, and weren’t showing up in categories, thereby i was having more empty categories than i should!!! So got some time out to sit down and key in a small renew mod, which sends out my link renew emails for phpLD, and also takes care of renew fee payment via paypal IPN, just like submissions.

I thought I’d release the code if someone else wants it,… the code released is only for phpLD 3.3.0, if you have any other version of phpLD please lemme know and ill cook up something for you.

BONUS FEATURE: The mod comes preinstalled with Rakchas deeplink mod for 3.3.0!!!

the Mobile industry and what lies within it!

I for one have always been excited about gadgets and gizmo’s. I remember even in school being the geek among all my friends, walking around with mashed up electronic gadgets or parts there of! a musical keychain with a torch cell, (more battery power bigger sound!) or the electric motor from my toy attached to the wheel of my cycle, and a bulb, (technically the AC motor and DC dynomo have the same construction!, or was that vise-versa!) :) Only thing went wrong was i took commerce in class XI! Well… Now I’m a Geek with the keyboard!

The mobile industry ticks me every time i read anything new about it. I always wanted to make a mobile site. I even purchased few dot mobi domains in the sunrise period at premium rates! but never had the time or the inclination to build on them!

Thanks to phpLD I actually got the platform to build… well a mobile alternate of my site.Boy is the mobile industry huge! with so many manufacturers for handsets and browsers, the complexity increases leaps and bounds!

History

The sudden advent of mobile internet in the middle of 1990’s and no central standards organization, manufacturers like Nokia [Narrow Band Sockets (NBS) and Tagged Text Markup Language (TTML)] and Erricson [Intelligent Terminal Transfer Protocol (ITTP)] came out with their own formats to browse the net; others formats like Handheld Device Markup Language (HDML) by Unwired Planet also came into the scene. But due to hardware dependencies none of the above could be seen as a long term solution. (more…)

phpLD – Adding suggest a category on the submit page!

Hi,

Browsing old threads, stumbled upon a thread with people talking about this idea! amamzingly no one had worked on this! shot a quick PM to the mods, just to confirm whether someone has worked/ is working on it or not….. and wallah… got a green flag there.

 I present to you, how to suggest a category on the submit page!

Features:
1. Admin configurable -> Disable | Show only Text Box | Show Text box and Suggest popup!
2. Does not allow you to edit/ Approve listings with suggested categories. You may delete.
3. Tested with phpLD 2.1.2, phpLD 3.2.0 (Requesting feedback on other versions)

Clicking on Approve, you get an error message!
however, you can delete listings.

3. If you goto directory-> links, and then try to edit a link with a suggested category, there also you will recieve a error message

Adding your Search Button to Google Toolbar!

Google is by far the leader in online search, and its success shared by all. For me it gets me more than 70% of all my traffic, between all my websites. And with its recent launch of Google Toolbar4.0 Google has opened doors to all developers to try their hands on developing XML based search buttons on it.

The toolbar is now not just a tool to check page rank anymore, but has a whole new features to it. The custom search button being one of many. No more does one has to worry of making heavy toolbars to advertise their company/website, where the customers are always suspicious of adware/ spamware and privacy considerations. Google Toolbar erases all those fears.

Reading about the toolbar, gave me plenty of ideas, and have at best tried to implement them in my new offerring for phpLD Directory script. The custom search button widget, which can be downloaded here. One can easily edit the XML file and other files, as per the [readme] given there in, and wallah…. you have your own search button for google toolbar, right on your site, a new and unique offerring to all your clients.

Custom Meta Tags Mod for phpLD – Dir.vc

Hi,
for those of you who dont know! phpLinkDirectory.com aka phpLD is a fantastic software, used to create directories, just like te Yahoo directory or perhaps DMoz!…. well a little bit like those… but you do get the picture dont you!

what is fantastic about this script written in PHP is its modular design, you can add your own mods or use from an array freely/ and paid available on various websites!

there is a whole community in itself which makes mods and sells them and some offers free download also!

i made a couple…. and am offerring them for free!

1. Google ads mod:
This Mod is a slight enhancement of the Mod by Jim Westergren
phpLD Forums
Where he has shown a gr8 way of putting google ads in phpLD, i have gone
just a tad step further of using his googleads.tpl, to show ads all over the site with diffrent formats!
instead of
{include file=”google.tpl”}
i have
{include file=”google.tpl” ad_type=”728_90″}

2. Show category tree on details page
This Mod is built on the Mod found here for version 2.x

This Mod enables you to show split categories in details pages
like
Home
|__Category1
|__Category2

the tree structure with links to categories.

3. Custom Meta Tags on individual pages
For example: you may want Title, Description and Meta Keywords on the details page
to be diffrent than the rest of the site, also if you have other pages like shop,
or you’re trying to cross sell some other site you would want the title to be totally diffrent,
